Liverpool eye January swoop for free agent Ezequiel Garay

Argentine international Ezequiel Garay is being looked at as a backup signing this January by Liverpool FC to provide cover in the centre-back spot, according to reports from Fichajes.

The 34-year old Garay is currently a free agent, having left La Liga side Valencia this summer after a long spell at the Spanish club, and Jurgen Klopp could be tempted to make a move for him following Virgil van Dijk’s long-term injury sidelining him for the likelihood of the entire 2020-21 season.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Anfield giants would go ahead with their speculated interest to sign Garay, with a major factor in a potential transfer swoop being the defender’s age, and also his speculated inability to deal with the fast pace style of play adopted in the Premier League.

Klopp has always opted to sign younger players for his first-team plans at Liverpool FC, and despite Van Dijk being ruled out for a lengthy period on the sidelines, the Merseyside club’s boss will also be keeping an eye on other alternatives, particularly the 22-year old Brighton star Ben White.
