Liverpool facing stiff competition to sign Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria

Liverpool are reportedly facing stiff competition to land the signature of the highly-rated Borussia Monchengladbach midfield man Denis Zakaria.

The Swiss international is wanted by a host of Europe’s top clubs who are queuing up for his services come next summer with his deal with Monchengladbach coming to an end at the close of the ongoing campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s need to bring in reinforcements for his midfield department sooner rather than later has sparked off the talk that Zakaria is one of the top names on the radar at Anfield with Klopp keen on a free transfer next summer.

Speaking on his The Here We Go podcast, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Merseyside bigwigs have heavy competition on their plate with the likes of Bayern Munich and AS Roma keeping close tabs on Zakaria.

Serie A giants Juventus and Catalan outfit FC Barcelona are also credited with a strong interest in signing Zakaria from Monchengladbach who have been unable in their repeated attempts to tie down the midfielder to extended terms beyond the summer of 2022.

“He is a super interesting player.

“We’re talking about a player who is playing for ‘Gladbach but he’s out of contract in June 2022.

“Some clubs are approaching the player to sign him in January and some clubs are approaching the player to sign as a free agent in June 2022.

“He’s changed his agent. Since he’s changed his agent, Roma were interested but now it’s going to be complicated.

“Bayern have joined the race. Bayern are seriously thinking of Zakaria.

“Liverpool FC are also keeping tabs on the player for the summer to sign him as a free agent. So Liverpool are also asking how is the situation with Zakaria.

“Juventus are also interested for a long time. They’re really interested in Zakaria.

“Finally, in what is a really open race, there’s FC Barcelona. Always remember FC Barcelona because they’re keeping tabs on free agents around Europe. He could be an interesting opportunity for many clubs.”
