Liverpool FC look assured to seal a deal for Thiago Alcantara on the cheap with Bayern Munich seeming likely to agree to the Reds’ offer of €30 million. The Spanish international has reportedly set his heart on move to Anfield this summer.
However, finalizing Thiago’s transfer has not been an easy task for the Merseyside giants until now. Bayern Munich had initially stuck to their €35 million asking price for their midfield star. Jurgen Klopp, despite greenlighting an approach for Thiago this summer, was reluctant to fork out such a fee for a player whose contract expires at the end of the 2020-21 season.
Moreover, the midfield department at Liverpool FC is very well-stocked in terms of first-team options at the moment. It seems unusual for Klopp to go ahead and sign Thiago this summer, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain still very much Liverpool FC players. Both players have been in great form of late and could play a major part for the Reds next season.
Also, signing a player who is nearing the age of 30 does not fit into Klopp’s history of transfer dealings since the German was hired as the Liverpool FC boss. The Reds manager has always focused upon bringing in youthful talents to the Merseyside.
However, Thiago’s potential arrival at Liverpool FC would mean that the club’s midfield will have a significant creativity boost. The 29-year old Spaniard is a very creative midfield influence on the pitch, with his dribbling ability and passing accuracy hailed by many. It is common knowledge that the Reds have lacked the creativity in the center of the park ever since Philippe Coutinho left for FC Barcelona.
The Bayern Munich star has made it clear to the German club’s management on his decision to move to England. Thiago wants to end his playing career elsewhere, having already starred at FC Barcelona and Bayern. Anfield seems to be the preferred destination for the Spanish international to play at come next season.
Jurgen Klopp will be delighted on securing Thiago’s signing on a reasonable offer this summer. The 29-year old midfielder could be a great addition for the Reds as the club seeks to defend their Premier League crown next season.
