The Reds are set to enter the race to sign highly-rated centre-back Kim Min-jae from Beijing Guoan. The 23-year old defender is also top on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist for the summer transfer window. However, Liverpool FC remains confident on securing the centre-back’s signing ahead of next season’s start.
Dejan Lovren is widely expected to seal a move away from Anfield before the current transfer window closes. The 31-year old Croatian has been known to be upset over his limited first-team involvement for the Reds this season. In Lovren’s impending absence at the club, Jurgen Klopp will be required to make a defensive addition to his squad.
Kim Min-jae, boldly dubbed ‘the South Korean Virgil van Dijk’, has been a solid performer for Beijing Guoan in the Chinese league. The 23-year old possesses considerable pace while being a great passer of the ball from the back. The South Korean international has often chipped in with goals for his side through his ability to score through headers.
Tottenham Hotspurs, however, do seem to be in the pole position to sign Min-jae this summer. The North London based club have already tabled two offers for the player, with both being rejected by Beijing Guoan.
The presence of South Korean superstar Son Heung-min at Spurs is the likely factor to tempt Kim Min-jae in making the move to Jose Mourinho’s side. The 23-year old centre-back will surely relish the possibility of playing alongside his national teammate at club level as well.
However, if Liverpool FC does manage to sign Kim Min-jae, the player would be a great low-cost defensive addition for the Merseyside giants. Reports indicate that Beijing Guoan have put a price-tag of £15million on the centre-back amid interest from other sides.
Despite Spurs’ being considered favourites to sign the South Korean defender, the Reds are still in the race for Min-jae. Any player is highly unlikely to refuse a move to the Premier League champions if an opportunity does arrive his way, and we could see the same thing happen for Min-jae as well.
