Liverpool FC have joined the race to monitor the situation of Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey at the Bundesliga side. In recent months, several top Premier League teams have been reported to be interested in signing Bailey in the summer. Manchester United FC and Manchester City FC are favorites for landing Bailey’s signature if the player leaves Leverkusen.
With Leverkusen not able to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the German side have reduced their asking price for their star attacker. According to reports, Bailey is now valued at around £30 million by the Bundesliga outfit. The 22-year old winger is eager on playing for a Premier League side next season.
Bailey’s current contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2023. With three years still remaining on his existing deal, the player would have to force through a move from Bayer Leverkusen in the transfer window.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Bailey in recent weeks. Jurgen Klopp is known to be wanting to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season. With Liverpool FC having missed out on signing Timo Werner, Bailey is a cheaper alternative to the German striker, who has now joined Chelsea FC.
With the future of Xherdan Shaqiri at Anfield looking doubtful, Bailey’s arrival could be a major boost to Liverpool FC. The Jamaican forward is a proven goal scorer and has the ability to run past opposition defenses with his superb speed. Bailey has scored five times for Bayer Leverkusen this season in the Bundesliga. Moreover, the 22-year old has also been involved in three assists and has maintained a steady form throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
Bailey would soon take the field in Saturday’s DFB Pokal final for Leverkusen against Bayern Munich. The player is believed to be an important part of the Leverkusen that will be spearheaded by long-term Chelsea FC target Kai Havertz. After the match, Bailey would be in a better position to make a decision regarding his future playing destination.
