Liverpool FC’s opening fixture against Everton FC to be held at Goodison Park despite police concerns

The Premier League fixture between Liverpool FC and Everton FC that is scheduled for 21st June will be held at Goodison Park despite the police recommending the match to be played at a neutral venue.

The fixture between the two arch-rivals, which is termed as the Merseyside derby, was among the several matches which were suggested to be played a neutral venue amid fears of the team’s fans breaking social distancing rules and increasing the spread of the ongoing pandemic virus.

The nod for the scheduled fixture to be played at Goodison Park has been given by the ground safety advisory group at Liverpool City Council which had a meeting on Wednesday. They have approved the match to be held as per the schedule at Goodison Park, which is the home stadium of Everton FC.

In an official statement, the Reds have welcomed the decision to permit the games to be played behind closed doors in the Merseyside region. However, in the statement published on their official website, Liverpool FC have cautioned their supporters to adhere to the guidelines for social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus.

The game against Everton FC is a very crucial one for the Liverpool FC squad and Jurgen Klopp. Needing just two wins out of their reaming nine fixtures in the Premier League, The Reds can hope to wrap up the title as soon as possible.

Liverpool FC have the chance to win the Premier League at Goodison Park with a win against their arch-rivals Everton FC if second-placed Manchester City FC loses to Arsenal on the opening matchday of the Premier League scheduled for 17th June.

Liverpool FC have a massive lead of 25 points at the top of the Premier League table. Manchester City FC are the only team in the league with a chance of catching the Reds mathematically.

However, Jurgen Klopp has chosen to assert caution and sound a warning to his players to replicate their fine run of form which have shown this campaign and to clinch the Premier League title which is awaited greatly by the Reds.
