Liverpool teenage sensation Harvey Elliot has revealed that prior to joining the Reds from his former club Fulham, Spanish giants Real Madrid were extremely keen on signing him, only to be snubbed by the player. Elliot, who turned 17 in April this year, already has a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup winners’ medals to his name due to his appearances in the competitions for his present club, Liverpool FC.
The player, who is a product of Fulham’s youth academy, was the youngest player to feature in a Premier League match at the age of 16 years and 30 days while playing for his former team.
When Elliot’s contract expired at Fulham, a host of top European clubs, such as Liverpool FC, Real Madrid, and Manchester City were circling the player to sign the highly-rated prospect. However, Elliot had his heart set on Liverpool FC, of whom he is a childhood fan. The winger moved to The Reds for what could be record fee when a tribunal decides it.
And now the player has revealed that Real Madrid had indeed made a move for the youngster and even invited him to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the home ground of the Spanish side.
However, Elliot had refused to meet Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos on his visit to Madrid, stating that he disliked the Spanish defender after what had happened between him and Liverpool FC star Mohammad Salah in the final of the 2018 UEFA Champions League. During the match, which was eventually won 3-1 by Real Madrid, Ramos had appeared to take down Salah in a tackle which had not been spotted by the referee. Salah had to be taken off the pitch after just 30 minutes of the commencement of the final.
Elliot has settled very well at Liverpool FC, with the club’s manager Jurgen Klopp very keen on developing the youngster further and has very high hopes from him. Klopp gave the player his first start for the Merseyside club back in a League Cup tie against Arsenal in October 2019.
