Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara remains poised to sign for the Reds despite a halt in negotiations between the two sides. The Spanish international is very keen on securing a move to Anfield this summer. Rumors linking Thiago with signing for Liverpool FC began when he refused to extend his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
Anfield remains the 29-year old midfielder’s preferred destination this summer. This comes despite interest from other Premier League sides as well in signing the Spaniard. However, Thiago has made clear his desire of playing under the management of Jurgen Klopp next season.
The Liverpool FC boss has been reported to give his nod on pursuing the 29-year old’s transfer. However, Bayern Munich’s asking price has led to a standstill in the initial talks between the two clubs. The Bavarians are keen on seeing a bid worth £36 million come their way in order to let Thiago depart for the Merseyside club.
However, the Reds are willing to meet only half of the fee demanded by Bayern Munich. Klopp has reportedly taken measures to prevent any frivolous spending on Liverpool FC’s behalf this summer. Such a step by the German comes amid the financial shortfalls of the ongoing pandemic crisis on the Reds’ income.
Recent reports indicate that the possibility of Thiago signing for the Premier League champions is quite high. With the impending departure of Adam Lallana, Liverpool FC will require another quality midfielder in their squad. Thiago presents himself as a player who can sort out the Reds’ recent lack of midfield creativity.
The 29-year old Spanish international has tasted plenty of success during his seven-year stay at Bayern. Klopp will be hoping that Thiago’s experience and ability come in handy for the Reds in the coming seasons.
With the 29-year old’s existing contract with Bayern set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season, Liverpool FC do have the power to negotiate a cheaper transfer fee. Bayern Munich will not be open to the idea of losing out on their star midfielder for free next summer. This might mean that the German club sanctions Thiago’s sale to the Reds for a lower amount before the current transfer window closes.
