The Premier League champions Liverpool FC have entered the race to sign RB Leipzig star Nordi Mukiele. It is believed that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will hold initial discussions with Mukiele in the coming days. Mukiele has established himself as a commanding defender in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons.
The Frenchman is equally apt at playing in both the centre-back as well as the right-back position. Since signing for RB Leipzig in 2018, Mukiele has made more than 50 appearances for the German outfit. The 22-year old has become a regular fixture in Leipzig’s first-team squad and has emerged as one of the brightest defending talents in the Bundesliga.
Adding a new defender to the current Liverpool FC squad could be a priority for Jurgen Klopp. Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren is widely tipped to seek a move away from Anfield this summer. The 31-year old has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool FC and looks certain to leave the Merseyside giants, amid interest from FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Moreover, there is a possibility of Klopp allowing Welsh prospect Neco Williams to depart on a loan this summer. The 19-year old full-back has impressed the Liverpool FC manager with his performances in the limited time he has been given on the pitch over the past few months.
However, to harness his development, Williams could be heading towards a loan spell away from Anfield. There would be plenty of clubs vying to sign the talented 19-year old defender on a loan deal.
Mukiele’s existing deal with RB Leipzig runs until 2023. Besides the Reds, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-German are also interested in securing the 22-year old’s signing. PSG have identified Mukiele as an ideal replacement for Thomas Meunier, who has departed for Borussia Dortmund.
Making a move for the Frenchman seems to be a great decision on Klopp’s part. Mukiele could be a fantastic addition to the already colossal Liverpool FC defence. The 22-year old would serve as a backup-option to both Trent Alexander Arnold at right-back as well as Joe Gomez at the heart of the defence.
Jurgen Klopp would no doubt be looking to sign certain players to strengthen his current first-team squad. And if available at the right price, Mukiele could be an important signing for the Reds ahead of next season’s start.
