Reds starlet Harvey Elliot is set to officially sign a three-year contract with the Premier League leaders. The teenage forward will sign the new contract at the start of next month.
Elliot has impressed fans and pundits alike with his brilliant performances since signing from Fulham last season. The 17-year old has also made a few first-team appearances in the Liverpool FC shirt and will be hoping to continue to do so after extending his stay at the Merseyside club.
Liverpool FC will have the option to extend the stay of Elliot at the club further by two years when the player’s new contract will expire in April 2021. Elliot will turn 18 next year and this would Jurgen Klopp a chance to further extend his three-year contract with the Reds and tie him down to the club until 2025.
Elliot’s move to his childhood side Liverpool FC has been nothing short of a dream for the 17-year old. Having signed from Fulham last season, for a transfer fee which is yet to be decided by a tribunal, the player has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp as a potential first-team attacker for the Reds.
Elliot has Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane as his senior colleagues in the Liverpool FC squad, and the teenager would be eager to learn the ropes from the two world-class forwards. The England U-17 international has already made seven appearances in the Reds shirt this season and would be counting on Klopp to reward him with some more playtime upon the restart of the Premier League.
Earlier, former England national team goalkeeper Paul Robinson had urged the Reds and Jurgen Klopp to award Elliot with a new contract which would see the teenage forward commit his future towards the Premier League side.
Robinson had stated that a player of Elliot’s calibre would not be shipped out on loan by Klopp but would a part of the future of Liverpool FC and should be given a contract with a length of more than three years.
With the Reds set to tie down Elliot for an extended stay at Anfield, it adds to the impressive group of highly-rated youngster present in the Liverpool FC squad with Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Ki-Jana Hoever being the others. Certainly, the Red’s future seems secure.
