Liverpool FC shockingly rumored to have withdrawn interest from signing Thiago Alcantara

A fresh twist has emerged in the rumours linking Thiago Alcantara with a move to Liverpool FC. According to reports, it now seems as if the Reds’ are no longer interested in signing the 29-year old Bayern Munich star midfielder. The reason behind such a decision is said to be Liverpool FC’s current squad being apt enough without Thiago’s addition.

Jurgen Klopp had stated earlier that the current transfer window could be a very quiet one for the Reds. The Liverpool FC boss had in fact ruled out any high-profile signings to be made by his side this summer. As a result, Thiago’s rumoured move to Anfield posed some questions for the German coach, who was swift to deny his interest in the Spanish midfielder.

Another reason for Liverpool FC reportedly not being keen on signing Thiago could be the price-tag put on the player’s head by Bayern Munich. Despite the Spaniard nearing the age of 30, the Bundesliga champions are sticking to their valuation of £30m for him. Moreover, Thiago’s current contract with the Bavarians runs only until next summer, following which the 29-year old would become a free agent.

The Reds are unwilling to shell out £30m for Thiago, that too in a single payment this summer. Reports had indicated the Merseyside club’s desire of paying instalments for the Bayern star’s transfer fee. However, such a payment scheme might not have seemed viable to Bayern Munich’s management.

The most important factor affecting Klopp’s decision to withdraw interest from signing Thiago is the current roster of midfielders at Liverpool FC. Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, James Milner, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum, and Naby Keita are all proven first-team specialist options at Klopp’s disposal.

Moreover, all these midfielders have been an integral part of the Reds’ domestic and continental success over the past two seasons. Furthermore, attackers Xherdan Shaqiri and recent signing Takumi Minamino are capable of being played in the middle of the park.

With such an impressive lineup of midfield candidates, Klopp would certainly be perplexed over an opportunity to sign Thiago this summer. Also, whether the Spanish international would be able to straight away break into the Reds’ first-team is another factor affecting the viability of the deal.

It certainly seems as if a Liverpool FC move for Thiago would not materialize despite strong speculation in recent weeks. The Reds’ supporters would no doubt be upset over their team choosing to forgo another high-profile signing after Timo Werner in such a short span of time.
