Former Liverpool FC star defender Mark Lawrenson has urged his old club to make a move for Wolves skipper Connor Coady as a ‘ready-made’ replacement for the long-term absentee Virgil van Dijk.
While speaking to The Argus, Lawrenson was vocal in his praise for Coady, a former Liverpool FC old boy himself, and called upon the Champions of England to shore up their centre-back options in the wake of Van Dijk’s injury ruling out the Dutch international for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
“I would think Virgil will be out for the season,” the ex-Reds centre-back told The Argus. “I think it’s a write-off because you’ve got to get match fit and that’s almost impossible nowadays because they don’t play reserve team football.
“If Liverpool are going to pay big money for somebody in January, they want absolutely ready-made. Conor Coady has had loads of shouts and he is a very good organiser who has played lots of games in the Premier League.”
Coady himself has been pressed upon rumours surrounding his return to Anfield last week, when Jamie Carragher mockingly asked the newly capped English international for his comments upon the same, however, the defender had ruled out any such possibility, with Coady insisting that he was very happy at the Molineux Stadium.
The Reds continue to be linked with a number of top names across Europe, with Ben White leading the line amongst the prospective candidates to sign for the Merseyside giants in January.
