West Ham United captain Declan Rice is reportedly being targeted by Premier League giants Liverpool for the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, the Reds will face a challenge from several elite clubs as the English midfielder continues to attract attention.
At the end of the season, the Reds are expected to make a significant midfield signing, and Jude Bellingham is still frequently mentioned in transfer rumours.
To sign the Borussia Dortmund star, Liverpool must battle with teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea. However, the player’s unavailability will force Liverpool into looking for other potential midfield targets and that’s where Declan Rice fits the bill perfectly.
The 23-year-old might potentially leave the London Stadium during the summer transfer window, leading Jurgen Klopp’s team to reevaluate their interest in Rice. The Liverpool Echo claims that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the England international, who the Hammers reportedly valued at around £150 million last summer.
Although Rice’s contract still has two more years to go and a 12-month extension option, there have been rumours that he may actively pursue a transfer away from West Ham by 2023.
During the 2021–22 season, Rice was in excellent form once more for David Moyes’ team, making 48 appearances across all competitions and providing four goals and four assists.
Rice will be a key member of the England team for the 2022 World Cup and is anticipated to start for the Three Lions in the upcoming campaign.
The Reds are in urgent need of midfield signings since a vast number of their players have been injury prone. The 23-year-old’s good fitness record and rich Premier League experience could be a boon for Liverpool.
