Jurgen Klopp could have his first signing of this summer’s transfer window finalized in the coming days as RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate is on the verge of completing his move to Anfield ahead of the new season.
The Frenchman had been long targeted by the Merseyside giants who had fallen short of defensive options this past campaign owing to the injury crisis at the club which was fulfilled through short-term cover signings and makeshift options.
But recent reports from Fabrizio Romano claim that Konate is set to agree upon a deal with Liverpool which will run until 2026 making him the first arrival at Anfield for the summer as Klopp seeks to bolster his squad.
The Reds are understood to have triggered Konate’s €35 million worth release clause and look set to land the highly-promising central defender’s signature despite Konate being a target for a number of top clubs across the continent including the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
It remains to be seen what Konate’s move to Liverpool means for the on-loan Ozan Kabak who joined the Reds on deadline day in the January window with speculation of the Turkish international being touted as a replacement for the soon-to-be-former Leipzig man Konate at the Bundesliga side.
