Liverpool in line to make an approach for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo

Liverpool are reportedly in line to make an approach for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo who is seeking a wage hike to extend his stay at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants are keen on tieing down Araujo to a new long-term deal but the contract talks are proving to be more difficult with Araujo holding out for an increase amid Barça’s finances in a fragile state.

According to reports from 90min, it is claimed that Liverpool are set to enter the mix for Araujo’s signature with Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders keeping close tabs on his contract standoff ahead of the next summer.

Klopp is well-stocked in his defensive talent at Anfield, however, the recent speculation suggests Aston Villa are looking at fringe first-teamer Joe Gomez as a January target which could convince the Liverpool boss t0 dip into the market for a fresh face.

Gomez’s fall down the pecking order is understood to be a reason behind the newly appointed Villa manager Steven Gerrard eyeing up a swoop for the England international at the turn of the year.
