According to Italian news source Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are in the pole position to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
For several months, the Reds have been repeatedly credited with an increased interest in the Dutch midfielder. The rumors reappeared in the January transfer window, and once again they are linked with a move.
According to the source, Liverpool might try to sign Koopmeiners in the summer. If Atalanta doesn’t make the Champions League for the upcoming season, it has been said that they will try to sell the midfielder for a marginal profit.
Currently, Atalanta is sitting in sixth place in Serie A and four points outside of the Champions League spot. Koopmeiners left AZ Alkmaar for Atalanta for a sum of €12 million (£10.5 million).

The report goes a step further by discussing Liverpool’s recent interest in Koopmeiners. The Reds are allegedly in “pole position” to sign the 25-year-old when the summer transfer market opens.
Jurgen Klopp’s aging midfielders have struggled to bear the load this season, therefore the manager is eager to sign young top quality midfielders. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita all expected to leave Anfield stadium at the end of the campaign.
Moreover, Italian giants Juventus are also rumored to be interested in Koopmeiners. The report claims that Atalanta values the midfielder at approximately € 50 (£44m). The Reds could be able to make a deal at that price.
