Liverpool have reportedly initiated contact with Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez following his eye-catching displays at the World Cup in Qatar.
Fernandez emerged on the transfer radar at Anfield in recent weeks with the Benfica man impressing some of Europe’s biggest clubs with his captivating displays in the centre of the park for the World Cup semi-finalists Argentina.
According to a report from Record, it is claimed that the Reds are gearing up to open talks with the player and Benfica over a potential move to Merseyside for the 21-year-old who signed for the Portuguese club only last summer.
It remains to be seen whether Fernandez grows into a priority target for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool or an alternative to Liverpool’s long-standing target Jude Bellingham with a swoop for the latter understood to be of much importance to the Anfield camp.
Speculation of late has suggested that the European champions Real Madrid are planning to bow out of the race to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund after being priced out which leaves Liverpool as the frontrunners.
