Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Rennes central defender Arthur Theate with the Reds searching for a new defender to partner their skipper Virgil van Dijk.
Jurgen Klopp is looking for a left-footed centre back and a report from the French publication L’Équipe has claimed that Theate is one of the names on the shopping list for the Liverpool manager.
The Belgian defender made the move to the Ligue 1 side from Bologna in a €19 million deal last year and enjoyed a successful debut campaign in the French top flight with 42 appearances across all competitions under his belt.
Theate’s versatility makes him a viable target for Liverpool who face a hard task in recruiting a fresh pair of legs for the under-fire backline before the September 1 transfer deadline with Klopp also on the hunt for a new midfielder.
Wataru Endo’s arrival on the Merseyside provides the Reds with much needed depth in the midfield roster but with as many as six departures over the summer, Liverpool will hope to sign at least one more new face to bolster their engine room.
