Liverpool join the fray for Lyon’s wantaway midfield star Houssem Aouar

The highly-rated French midfield talent Houssem Aouar has found a new suitor in Liverpool who have entered the widely-contested race to land his signature this summer, according to reports from ESPN.

Aouar has been one of the in-demand names in the transfer market this summer with the Lyon first-team star regular a key target for North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur besides being wanted by Manchester United as well.

Liverpool’s joining their league rivals comes on the back of Jurgen Klopp’s inability so far in the summer window to bring in a fresh face for his midfield department after the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum made the move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

It is understood that Lyon have already turned down a €40 million bid from Arsenal who are backed to be the frontrunners for Aouar’s signature ahead of the start of the 2020-2021 Premier League campaign which kicks off in less than four weeks from now.

The Lyon man has just two years remaining on his current deal which could force the French outfit on parting ways with their midfield maestro should a reasonable offer come their way before the transfer window slams shut.
