Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has admitted that the Reds should make a bid for Fulham left back Ryan Sessegnon in the summer transfer window as a backup for Andrew Robertson.
Just a few seasons ago, the only areas that the Merseyside giants needed to strengthen were their backline and most importantly find a proper left-back to challenge for major honors. And the Reds arguably have the best left back in the world at the moment in the form of Andrew Robertson.
The Scotsman arrived on the scene just over a year and a half ago and has excelled tremendously becoming a regular under Jurgen Klopp. Robertson’s rise pushed Alberto Moreno down the pecking order and eventually out of the club and Liverpool have to look into the transfer market to search for a backup for Robertson if he undergoes suspension or is out injured.
Recent reports have claimed that Liverpool is linked with the signing of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham as the 19-year-old defender is arguably too talented to continue playing his football at Craven Cottage in the Championship.
Sessegnon provided six assists and two goals for Fulham last season and can only improve himself if he is surrounded by better players around on the pitch. And former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has urged Jurgen Klopp to make a move for the Englishman in the summer transfer window.
While speaking to ESPN, the 57-year-old Scotsman admitted that Sessegnon could be the one who provides cover for Robertson for Liverpool in the future, “Ryan Sessegnon; He is not starting but he is there to push the others already in the first team (at Liverpool). He would be there to make the starting eleven better. In two or three years’ time, he would be pushing Robertson or whoever it is down the left-hand side.”
