Liverpool legend Graeme Souness slams Jurgen Klopp’s men on defeat to Fulham

Liverpool FC came under the scanner massively following a sixth straight defeat for the Merseysiders on Sunday and Anfield legend Graeme Souness was one among those who slammed Jurgen Klopp’s men for their uninspiring display against Fulham.

Klopp’s outfit came out second best to a tough-looking Fulham side, with a first-half strike from the visitors through Mario Lemina, coupled with a resilient defensive showing, ensuring all three points for Scott Parker’s men in the most deserved of manners.

Defeat on Sunday afternoon added to the increasingly familiar storyline of late for Liverpool FC when turning on their own patch and Souness believes that the Reds players have failed to convince Klopp of retaining their spots in the XI.

“It’s been disappointing,” said the ex-Red to Sky Sports.

“You’ve got a group of players who will be looking to tell the manager by their performances ‘we should really be in the starting 11.’ That has not happened today from any of them.

“They have been a shadow [of their former selves]. There is one word I associate with Liverpool the last three years:, intensity. They were a team you didn’t want to play against. Now it is a team that are an easy touch, and that is unacceptable.

“It is unfathomable. I struggle to say it. It beggars belief how a team can go from so good to so average. It’s about players. Jurgen Klopp has found out exactly what he has got in this dressing room.

“Some of them have not stood up to the challenge. When you win a trophy, that’s parked. Look ahead to next season. Some of those players have not done that. It’s not Liverpool, it’s about winning again and again and again.”

The Merseyside Reds next go up in action later this week when they take on Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in the second leg of the Last-16 tie of Champions League football.

Having recorded a decisive 2-0 victory the first time around, Klopp’s men would hope to secure further progress into the competition as hopes of a top-four finish this season in the Premier League looks increasingly bleak.
