Liverpool linked with a move for Stade Rennes winger Jeremy Doku

According to The Sun, Liverpool has expressed interest in Stade Rennes winger Jeremy Doku. The Reds have been linked to the attacker in the previous transfer window and it seems that they would pursue a deal this January.

In 62 games for Rennes, the former Anderlecht winger has tallied four goals and six assists. The most memorable period of his career was perhaps Belgium’s Euro 2020 campaign, during which he was arguably one of their best players.

In ten games, he has two goals and three assists for his country. However, the Reds have to be quick as Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are also competing to sign him.

Jurgen Klopp did sign Luis Diaz, but the Reds would need to bolster that position given the lack of a backup at the left wing spot and the departure of Sadio Mane earlier this summer has left a big void to fill.

The 20-year-old can play on either side of the flanks due to his speed and dribbling skills, giving the coach a “super-sub” option until he is ready to start games on a regular basis.

Additionally, his versatility to play in attacking midfield may inspire Klopp to try out a different system of play. He had a low centre of gravity, which allowed him to outrun opponents by using his speed and agility.

It’s important to consider the difference an explosive player can make in a game, especially off the bench.

He can play for a team where he gets a little bit more attention at Liverpool. Doku might benefit from the move because the Reds are one of the top clubs in the world.

Salah would also be aware that there might be a future opening at Anfield for his position where he and Sadio Mane developed into two of the best wingers in the world.

Even though a midfielder would be ideal in this situation, the Reds’ decision to sign Doku seems like a wise one. His career is almost certain to go upward given how well he has been playing. Liverpool should try to sign the player before his asking price increases next summer.
