Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp could be forced to turn to a former Anfield hero in Daniel Sturridge to make up for the absence of star duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane upon the turn of the year in January.
Salah and Mane are due to take part in the AFCON Cup of Nations with their respective countries and hence will be unavailable for club football on Merseyside for a significant period in the Premier League fixture list.
Options to choose from in the final third of the pitch are limited for the Liverpool manager Klopp who did not bring in any fresh face in this summer’s transfer window despite a majority of the club’s fanbase urging him to do the same.
Reports from The Daily Express have indicated that the former Liverpool star forward Sturridge, currently serving a ban for breaching betting regulations, could emerge as a shock target for his old club to provide some much-needed cover in the attacking department.
Klopp has the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino to call upon should the need arise but both players have put in a series of misfiring showings in front of the goal when handed first-team involvement in the Liverpool colours.
