Liverpool have made Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount their top transfer target for this summer as the Reds look to rebuild their midfield ranks before the next season gets underway.
The Reds are being tipped as strong contenders to bring the England midfielder to Anfield later this year with Mount looking certain to head out the exit door at Stamford Bridge after his talks over a new contract hit a roadblock.
According to a report from The Liverpool Echo, it is claimed that Mount, who approaching the last year of his deal with Chelsea and would thus be a significantly cheaper option than Liverpool’s long-standing target Jude Bellingham, is the new priority.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring in a fresh pair of legs as soon as possible ahead of pre-season with Liverpool in line to lose three first-team midfielders in Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo at the end of the season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, remain hopeful that Mount’s services could be retained beyond the end of the season despite suggestions that the 24-year-old playmaker is open to making the move elsewhere.
