Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been backed for a move to Villa Park this summer by ex-Arsenal and Everton forward Kevin Campbell.
Chamberlain’s future at Anfield ahead of the start of the new campaign has attracted much speculation with reports of Liverpool being willing to part ways with the 28-year-old for a knockdown asking price as clubs across the country monitor the situation.
The former Arsenal talent has failed to hit the ground running for Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent years with inconsistency in form and recurring injury troubles severely hampering Chamberlain’s chances of cementing a berth on the Liverpool team sheet.
With Manchester United rumoured to be shock candidates lining up a bid for the England international, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa side have also been credited with a strong interest in lodging a bid to land Chamberlain’s signature.
Speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Campbell said that an Aston Villa switch could be perfect for the Anfield outcast Chamberlain with Gerrard poised to secure a bargain signing for a cut-price deal of £10 million.
“I mean £10million is a steal for somebody like the Ox.
“His problem is game time. Yes, he has had his injury problems but even when he is fit he is not playing. That has been the real difficulty for him.
“I think he’d get opportunities at Aston Villa, I really do. I could see him fitting into that Steven Gerrard system.
“He will be hungry to play and prove himself again. I think that would be a great signing for Villa especially for £10million. I really think that would be a steal in the grand scheme of things.”
