Liverpool are in the process of negotiating the deal structure with Benfica for the Anfield giants’ top target Darwin Núñez, according to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
It is understood that the 22-year-old prolific forward will pocket a pay package of €6 million per year with Liverpool keen to wrap up the talks to land Nunez and line up a replacement for the outgoing Sadio Mane.
Bayern Munich are closing in on signing Mane from the Liverpool camp this summer but Liverpool are holding out for a £40 million asking price after turning down two bids from the Bundesliga holders.
For Nunez, meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side look set to fork out a club-record transfer fee of €80 million plus €20 million in performance-related add-ons with the Liverpool boss making the Uruguayan a priority name on his summer wishlist.
Nunez netted 34 goals across all competitions in the 2021-22 season, making him one of the most in-demand names in the transfer market in the process, but it might be Liverpool walking away with his signature should recent events tell a tale.
