Liverpool not chasing Manchester City record says Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool is unlikely to break Manchester City’s record of 18 consecutive Premier League victories and has stated that records like these do not bother him.

The Reds have racked up 16 straight wins in league matches and remain just two short of equaling Manchester City’s record, however, Liverpool has a tough run of games coming up in the Premier League. Liverpool faces in-form Leicester City next followed by a trip to Old Trafford to face their old rivals Manchester United if Liverpool comes out unscathed against these two teams they will face Tottenham to break Manchester City’s record on the 27th of October.

Klopp remains pessimistic about the run of fixtures coming up

‘(There are) interesting games coming up,’ said Klopp. ‘It doesn’t sound too likely. But we will try and first and foremost Salzburg and then Leicester. Then it is the international break and hopefully, everybody comes back healthy. That is the most important.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will play against each other in Singapore, the very interesting game obviously, it’s not a qualification for anything. So hopefully everyone comes back healthy and then we try to prepare for Man United.

Liverpool faces FC Red Bull Salzburg at home in the Champions League in midweek where Klopp is likely to rotate his squad giving some of the key players a rest.

‘I try to understand how other people think about things but from the way, I think about things I’m not interested in the number, to be honest. It’s just a number.

‘So, you only can create a streak like this if you’re always in the next job. The next job is Salzburg which is a different competition and then Leicester City and that will be difficult.
