Liverpool open talks for Sporting Lisbon star playmaker Pedro Goncalves

Pedro Goncalves is a name that has generated much frenzy amongst Europe’s biggest teams heading into this summer’s transfer window on the back of the midfielder’s superb campaign with the Liga NOS champions Sporting Lisbon.

Liverpool are one such side who are keeping tabs on the highly-rated Portuguese who has found the back of the net 20 times this season in 31 outings besides registering three assists as Lisbon won the league title for the first time in 19 long years.

Reports from Record claim that the Reds are keen to improve their midfield options in light of Gini Wijnaldum being very close to sealing an exit in the summer upon his current deal coming to a close and the Dutchman showing no signs of wanting to extend his stay on Merseyside amid strong interest in his services from FC Barcelona.

Goncalves has often drawn comparisons to Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes who too was a star presence previously at Lisbon before arriving at Old Trafford and displaying a real zeal for Ole Gunner Solskajer’s outfit.

Sporting Lisbon, however, are wanting to extend a new contract to 22-year-old Goncalves which would put his release clause at £69 million meaning Jurgen Klopp will have to shell out big bucks in order to land his preferred target ahead of the new campaign.
