Liverpool player tests positive for coronavirus while on national duty

Liverpool FC’s summer signing Kostas Tsimikas has tested positive for the coronavirus while on national duty with Greece, reports confirmed. The full-back is now expected to miss the Reds’ initial games of the 2020-21 Premier League season as he is put into isolation to prevent the spread of the virus.

In a statement released by the Greek Football Federation, it was mentioned that a player of the first-team squad had contacted COVID-19. Confirmation following the initial announcement revealed that the player in question was Tsimikas.

The 24-year old left-back will also miss his national side’s upcoming games against Slovenia and Kosovo later this week. He has been released from the travelling party for the game against the latter and is tipped to fly back to Melwood and stay in quarantine.

Tsimikas signed for Jurgen Klopp’s side earlier in this summer’s transfer window in a deal worth £11.75 million. The defender arrives at Anfield after a successful spell at previous club Olympiacos, however, is yet to make his competitive debut appearance for the Anfield giants.
