Liverpool poised to open talks with Naby Keita over new contract

Liverpool are suggested to be in line to open talks with Naby Keita over a new contract for the midfielder who made a big-money move to Anfield in 2017.

Keita has often struggled to cement a regular role on the starting teamsheet for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side despite the boss reaffirming his faith in the player’s ability out there on the pitch.

The Guinean international has been given an extended run of first-team involvement since the start of the new season at Anfield and reports from Calciomercato have claimed that a new deal could be on the cards for the 26-year-old midfield man.

His current deal on Merseyside with the Reds expires in less than 24 months and there is talk gaining ground that Jurgen Klopp wants Keita to commit his long-term future to the club and avoid a Gini Wijnaldum-like situation.

Wijnaldum had staged his exit from Anfield in this summer’s transfer window after long drawn out negotiations with the Liverpool board failed to convince the Dutchman to stay put with the club rather than sign for Paris Saint-Germain.
