Liverpool have started the 2018-19 season in brilliant fashion winning all four of their matches so far. They are one of only 3 teams to have done that so far.
So far, they’ve beaten West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester. However, the upcoming month can be a make or break month. This month will decide whether Liverpool are ready to finally mount a title challenge or not.
Liverpool’s line up so far has been fairly consistent with the only change coming in midfield. Liverpool have started all 4 games in a 4-3-3 formation.
10 players have started all 4 games and have been given time to gel with each other. Keita has been the only to be changed after he was surprisingly dropped for Henderson in the game against Leicester.
Here’s the probable starting XI for Liverpool’s game against Tottenham :
Goalkeeper : Alisson
Alisson has started all 4 games and it is highly unlikely that he will be dropped with Karius also gone. He has been pretty solid but also largely untested with the defence doing their job pretty well. He has conceded just a single goal so far. That too, because of his own fault after he tried the Cryuff turn inside his own penalty area and was caught on it by Iheanacho.
Defence : TAA, Joe Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson
There have been no changes so far and it is very clear as to why Klopp trusts the current lot. Liverpool have conceded just a single goal so far, the least in the league. The credit is totally to the defence as they’ve snuffed out danger as soon as the opponent gains possession.
Liverpool haven’t faced a strong side yet and , TAA and Robertson won’t get the freedom like they have previously. Pochettino might focus his attack on a flank as Liverpool’s fullbacks are more comfortable in attack than in defence.
The same defence is likely to start again with no-one giving a proper challenge to them.
Midfield : Keita, Fabinho and Milner
Jurgen Klopp might be tempted to rest his stars before the clash at Anfield against PSG midweek but it is too early in the League and Klopp would like to maintain the 100% record that they have currently. Tottenham are a strong side and will look for a comeback after their surprise loss against Watford last time out.
Attack : Salah, Mane and Firmino
This is perhaps the best front 3 in the Premier League and one of the best in Europe. Mane has started the season in superb form scoring 4 goals in 4 matches. Salah has scored 2 so far but hasn’t hit top form as of yet. Firmino plays as a false 9 and is one of the most underrated players in the squad.
Liverpool would be looking to maintain their 100% record but they certainly will be happy with a point at Wembley. Also, they would be looking to get the game settled early so that the more important players can get rest before the Champions League clash.
