Liverpool FC are set to conclude their first signing of the forthcoming January transfer window in the form of Birmingham City starlet Calum Scanlon, according to reports from The Express.
The 15-year-old defender is expected to sign for the Merseysiders very soon and would be an inductee into the famed youth academy of Liverpool FC whose graduates have grown into first-team regulars of late for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side.
Scanlon has impressed with his limited involvement in the Birmingham City setup at the lower levels of English football, and a move to the Champions of England would come as a short in the arm for the teenager’s future development into a quality defensive force.
Jurgen Klopp’s track record of fostering young talent in his squad ranks, be it during his days as the Borussia Dortmund boss, or since his appointment to the Liverpool FC managerial hotseat, has been exemplary to say the least.
The wide-fold applause garnered by the likes of Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams this season, with the duo stepping in for injured first-teamers at Anfield, shows that Klopp’s faith in highly promising youth talent wards off the need to dip into the transfer market to make big-money signings.
