In what would surely come as a massive sigh of relief for Liverpool FC fans in an otherwise depressing turn of events since last month, Virgil van Dijk has resumed light training, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Van Dijk, the Reds’ defensive colossus, was feared to miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season after injuring his ACL in a severe manner during last month’s Merseyside derby stalemate at the Goodison Park.
He had undergone a surgery on his damaged ligaments before having to oversee a rehabilitation programme under the advisement of the Liverpool FC medical support staff, however, the Dutch international’s return to the pitch this season looked rather unlikely.
But with recent reports claiming that the ex-Southampton central defender has begun taking part in light training sessions, Jurgen Klopp will be praying for his star man to make a first-team comeback as early as possible.
Van Dijk’s return would pave the way for Liverpool FC and Jurgen Klopp to go into the January transfer window without an urgent need to acquire a new centre-back option amid speculating indicating that the Merseysiders were on the hunt for potential reinforcements.
