Liverpool have registered an interest in signing Juventus contract rebel Matthijs de Ligt this summer with the Dutchman’s talks for a new deal stalling.
According to a report from CalcioMercato, Liverpool could pull off a shock swoop for the highly-rated defensive talent De Ligt over the coming months with the Reds keeping close tabs on his contract situation in Italy.
De Ligt is tied to the Juventus camp until the summer of 2024 but the Serie A giants are keen to extend his stay by another two years, however, the player has so far refused to pen the extension owing to a disagreement on the release clause front.
The Holland international defender wants his release clause to be lowered to €70 million from double that amount and should Juventus not concede his demands, De Ligt could look for a move elsewhere before the transfer window slams shut.
Jurgen Klopp is not in need of any new defensive signings at Anfield after his recruitment of Ibrahima Konate last year but the Reds boss could be tempted to monitor De Ligt with the Dutchman linked with a move to Merseyside in the past.
