Jurgen Klopp looks all set to add another big-name defender to his Anfield ranks amid recent claims of Napoli defensive star Kalidou Koulibaly being close to a summer switch to Liverpool FC.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Jurgen Klopp’s side are in line to finalise an approach for the world-class talent that is Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly with the Serie A outfit keen to cash in on the in-demand central defender this summer.
The Reds have gained ground in their attempts to shore up an injury-depleted backline ahead of the 2021-22 campaign with reports earlier this week suggesting that Liverpool FC were on the verge of concluding a deal for the highly-rated RB Leipzig first-teamer Ibrahima Konaté.
Having brought in Ozan Kabak on deadline-day in the January window in a short-term loan agreement, the uncertainty of extending the Turkish international’s spell at Anfield beyond the summer is understood to be a major reason behind Liverpool FC’s pursuit of alternative names in the transfer market.
Despite impressing in his relatively short time donning the Liverpool FC colours, Kabak remains a long shot away from establishing first-team regular credentials as the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez near a return to the fold from long-term injury layoffs.
