Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reckons that Liverpool will be scouting the transfer market this summer for a new winger to make up for the imminent loss of Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane during January’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Liverpool star forward pairing are set to represent their respective nations at the tournament following the turn of the year which will leave Klopp with limited options to field up top on the pitch.
Romano has claimed on his Twitch stream that the Reds gaffer will be enticed to bring in a new attacking name to his first-team camp ahead of the start of the 2021-22 campaign where Liverpool will be backed to renew their title-winning credentials.
“What I have been told, the strategy for Liverpool now is not going immediately for a midfielder.
“Their priority is to now go for some wingers. This season, they are going to lose, for some weeks, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
“So, they are looking for some potential wingers and then, moving [towards] the end of the market, maybe some opportunity will arrive for a midfielder.”
Liverpool have been linked with a host of wide players this summer with the likes of Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and his compatriot Domenico Berardi doing the rounds.
The Reds have made only one move in the market so far with Ibrahima Konate’s arrival proving a major boost to Klopp’s backline which endured a severe injury crisis last season.
