Liverpool secured Thiago’s signing following the player snubbing interest from Barcelona

In an interesting revelation by prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian, Liverpool FC managed to finalize the signing of Thiago Alcantara this summer under the nose of La Liga giants FC Barcelona.

The ex-Bayern Munich star playmaker was a wanted force this summer by a number of top clubs across Europe’s big leagues, with Manchester United also in the mix to make the move for the 29-year old. However, as it was known widely, Thiago was keen on signing for only the Merseyside giants, as he put pen to paper on a four-year deal later on.

FC Barcelona were in a dire need of bolstering their midfield options following the departure of Croatian international and club stalwart Ivan Rakitic to Sevilla, and reports suggest that the Catalan outfit did make numerous last-ditch attempts in order tu lure Thiago to Camp Nou, however, the efforts evidently fell futile.

The Reds, on the other hand, secured Thiago’s capture on a bargain fee €25m plus bonuses, truly an extraordinary event, taking into account the fact that the Spaniard is indeed one of the most creative playmakers in world football at the moment.
