The Reds are on the verge of offering their colossal centre-back Virgil van Dijk a new contract which would enable the Dutch international to earn £57 million over the course of five years.
On signing the contract worth £220,000-a-week, Van Dijk would become the highest-earning player in the Liverpool FC squad and would take home the paycheque which would be more than what is being earned by the likes of Mohammad Salah or Sadio Mane.
Moreover, Van Dijk could also have a new record to his name by becoming the highest-earning player in the Reds famed history when the Dutch national team captain pens the new five-year contract.
However, recent reports have indicated that the Reds will hold out extending a new contract to Van Dijk until the current Premier League season is wrapped up and Liverpool FC clinch the trophy which is awaited by Reds faithful for 30 years.
The Liverpool FC squad are enjoying a majestic season with the Merseyside club occupying the first position in the Premier League table and enjoying a 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City FC. Jurgen Klopp has assembled a wonderful squad led by Jordan Henderson, which has demolished all the competition in current Premier League season.
There have rumours suggesting Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain could make a move for Van Dijk in the summer.
The French giants see the Dutch international as the ideal replacement for veteran centre back and club captain Thiago Silva. There is no shortage of funds at PSG’s coach Thomas Tuchel’s disposal and he could attempt to negotiate Van Dijk’s signing.
However, the Reds are not bothered by PSG’s possible approach towards singing Van Dijk as the Premier League side are assured that the Dutch international does not wish to switch clubs at this point of his career. Van Dijk has already won the Champions League with the Reds and would now be looking forward to getting his hands on the Premier League trophy.
The player joined Liverpool FC from Southampton FC in a £75 million transfer in January 2018. The fee paid by the Reds was a world-record sum paid for a defender at that time. The Dutch player has been a fantastic signing for Klopp’s side and has changed the dynamics of the Reds squad. His arrival has sorted out all the defensive issues which plagued the earlier Liverpool FC squad and has led to him being adored by the Reds supporters.
