Liverpool set to receive record amount in prize money for Premier League glory

Liverpool FC are in for a massive influx of revenue following their 2019-20 Premier League title-winning season. Recent reports indicate that the Reds would be entitled to a record-sum payout of £175 million in the form of prize money.

All clubs in England’s topflight footballing division have made the decision to receive the allocated amount of prize money in full for the recently concluded 2019-20 campaign. Moreover, a resolution to delay the income shortfalls caused by the COVID-19 pandemic was also passed by the clubs.

The Premier League sides had to pay out nearly £330 million via rebates to broadcasting services, both domestic as well as overseas. Such a concession was mandatory due to the disruption in the Premier League calendar year following the massive outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic crisis.

The Anfield giants will no doubt be glad on the outcome of the decision made unanimously by the 20 Premier League teams. Reports had suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s side could have expected a revenue loss of £21 million had the decision to stall the repayment scheme to broadcasters not been taken.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to make use of the new funds at his disposal to finance further transfer business this summer. The Liverpool FC boss had earlier cited lack of money as the club’s inability to make high-profile signings ahead of next season.
