Anfield great Robbie Fowler has claimed that Liverpool FC could cash in on the star attacker Mohammad Salah in the summer transfer window and use the funds to plan a major rebuild.
Jurgen Klopp’s outfit has endured a dismal title-defence campaign this time around after last season’s unrivalled success in English top-flight football and Fowler has urged his old club to offload the rumoured-to-be unsettled Salah and bring in new faces on Merseyside.
The Egyptian superstar has been linked with a move to Spain in recent times amid reports of the Reds wanting to table improved and extended terms in front of their first-team regular ahead of the 2021-22 season.
‘I’m not having a go at Salah. I love him to bits. But I truly believe that transfers now are largely about what players want, so the ball is in his court, not Liverpool’s, ‘ said Fowler in an interview to the Mirror.
‘If he wants to go, then he should go. If a player wants to leave, we have to accept it’s in the mix.
‘I’m a firm believer that if they are unhappy and want to be going, then they should be going.”Jurgen Klopp has said the same, too – he doesn’t want anyone at the club who doesn’t want to be there. It is my belief that was his attitude with Philippe Coutinho. He agitated for a move.
‘Klopp didn’t want Coutinho because he thought his attitude wasn’t right, and he didn’t want that poison in his camp in the end.
‘So if Salah is truly Âunhappy, if he is upset he hasn’t been given a new contract or whatever, then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make tweaks with the current team.
‘I’m a fan of Salah, obviously, who wouldn’t be? But Liverpool didn’t miss Coutinho that much, did they?’
Much has been made of Salah’s exit rumours heading into the summer window as both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona remain linked with a move for the former Chelsea forward.
The 28-year-old, meanwhile, continues to bear the brunt of carrying his side in the final third of the pitch with his chart-topping 17 goals providing little but much-needed solace to the under-fire champions.
