Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara has played down the recent talk of a return to FC Barcelona for the Spain international midfielder.
Speculation had been rife in the aftermath of club icon Xavi being appointed to the top job at Camp Nou that the incoming manager will prioritise a move for the 30-year-old Thiago ahead of the January window.
FC Barcelona are going through a tough time and it was reported that Xavi will seek new signings from the market to bolster his ranks with Thiago leading the line of possible targets on the radar of the newly appointed boss.
The Reds first-team star, however, was quick to dismiss such rumours doing the rounds with Thiago in his pre-match remarks ahead of the midweek tie against FC Porto saying he was focused on giving his best for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He added he was committed to winning as many trophies as possible at Anfield where he is one of the main performers in the centre of the park for Klopp who brought him from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020.
“As I always have been, I am a guy who plays football – I am not concerned about the rumours.”
“I’m focused on the duty I have with my team and the years I have in contract with my team.
“I just want to know about this new adventure that I have here in the Premier League and try to win all the trophies I can. And my commitment is maximum with this team.”
