Liverpool’s young striker Liam Millar is in line to sign for Swiss side Basel who had been the clear frontrunners to land his signature despite interest shown in Millar from MLS outfit New York Red Bulls and Blackpool.
The Canada international’s departure from Merseyside would mean that Liverpool pocket a fee just north of £1 million with Basel agreeing upon a £1.3 million fee for the 21-year-old forward.
Millar had donned the captain’s armband for the Liverpool U23 side in the past but was backed to call it quits at Anfield this summer as it was understood that he had little chance of making it up the first-team ranks.
Reports from The Athletic claim that Liverpool have included a 20 per cent sell-on clause for their outgoing player in the hopes of receiving an additional windfall should Millar move elsewhere from Basel in the future.
The Canadian made just a sole senior outing for Jurgen Klopp’s side which came in the FA Cup last year when the Reds were up against Shrewsbury Town.
