Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi set to complete Union Berlin transfer

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is closing in on signing for German outfit Union Berlin on a permanent move with the forward set to exit Anfield after a six-year-long spell over the course of which he failed to make a sole outing for the Merseysiders.

Awoniyi’s work permit issues had prevented him from securing a berth at Anfield and become a part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team fold but the Nigerian player was fit to play this time around ahead of the upcoming campaign.

However, with the 23-year-old not backed to have a long-term future on Merseyside beyond this summer’s transfer window, Liverpool have decided to offload Awoniyi on a permanent basis with Union Berlin the prime candidates for his signature.

Reports from The Goal’s correspondent Neil Jones claim that Liverpool are in line to pocket a transfer fee worth £6.5 million for parting ways with the young striker whose transfer to Germany looks imminent in the coming days.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to ship out some more deadwood from his Anfield camp this summer with the likes of Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson leading the line of candidates to head out the exit door.
