England striker Daniel Sturridge is prepared to sign a new contract with Liverpool as he has discovered a new brand of confidence this season.
Football can be very strange at times, just in May, Liverpool was tired of keeping Daniel Sturridge in their squad due to his constant injury worries. The injury-prone forward was prepared to be offloaded in the summer with West Ham United and Serie A club AC Milan keen on Sturridge’s services. Just a few months before that, it seemed like his career was finished after moving to West Bromwich Albion on a loan deal but was injured after just six appearances at the Hawthorns.
Cut to now, the 29-year-old former Chelsea star has been proving the phrase, ‘Class is permanent.’ Coming off the bench in the last few stages of the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Sturridge netted an incredible strike to earn Liverpool a valuable point and has been Jurgen Klopp’s go-to man when things aren’t all 100 percent right.
According to the latest reports, Liverpool is planning to offer Daniel Sturridge a new contract very soon considering his impressive performances of late. With his £140,000 a week contract set to expire at the end of this summer, Liverpool are prepared to renew a deal for the poacher. Sturridge has netted four goals already this season which is not bad for a player who is used as a back up to Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino.
And although Sturridge is aware that he won’t be playing as regularly as he would like but he wants to help the team in any way possible which could is great for Liverpool who will surely use the talented attacker in the Champions League and FA Cup games later on.
Speaking to the Mirror, Sturridge said, “I’m always trying to push myself to the next level and contribute as best I can to the team to allow us to be successful. I feel like we’ve been very unlucky actually over the last few years not to win something, so hopefully, that’ll be the season when we can achieve that. But there’s a long way to go, there’s a lot of obstacles to overcome before we get to that stage when we can talk about trophies and these things. It’s important to stay focused throughout the season to get to the end – and hopefully, have something to be excited about at the end.”
