Following the rejection of their third bid, Liverpool swiftly responded by submitting an upgraded offer for Southampton star Romeo Lavia, according to a tweet by Ben Jacobs from CBS Sports.
Earlier on the same day, Southampton turned down Liverpool’s third bid, which amounted to £45 million, including additional payments.
The Championship team are insisting on a fee exceeding £50 million to part ways with the Belgian international. Jurgen Klopp holds a strong interest in the player and is keen on making this transfer come to fruition.
Currently, the Reds lack a dedicated defensive midfielder. Although Stefan Bajcetic has filled in, his youth and absence from pre-season training due to recovery from a stress injury render him less suitable.
Liverpool’s endeavour to secure Lavia’s signing has been rather humiliating.

Club icon Jamie Carragher expressed his thoughts on the matter through a tweet, highlighting the dissatisfaction surrounding the situation, particularly when Southampton rejected the third offer.
It’s reassuring to note that the club remains steadfast in their pursuit, evident in their submission of a fourth offer. The recent pre-season match against Darmstadt, a newly promoted German team, emphasized the team’s evident shortcomings.

Once the Lavia situation is resolved, Liverpool should shift their attention towards securing a centre-back. The match highlighted Joel Matip’s lack of pace, while Andrew Robertson cannot serve as a left-sided centre-back if the Trent Alexander-Arnold hybrid system persists.
With just slightly over three weeks remaining in the transfer window, the club must accelerate their efforts.
The prolonged negotiation of the Lavia deal, driven by a desire to save money, hasn’t been beneficial to the club’s objectives.
