Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips is reportedly ready to sign a new deal with Leeds United in a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s plans for this coming summer.
The Reds gaffer has long been keen on the England international midfielder who has grown into one of the top players in his position in the Premier League since Leeds moved backed to the top flight.
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, it is claimed that Phillips has never wanted to call it quits at his boyhood club and turned down interest from Burnley and a potential £26 million switch to Villa Park to pen extended terms back in 2019.
This turn of events would come as a setback in the longstanding pursuit of the 26-year-old Phillips by the Liverpool camp in their hunt for reinforcements in the centre of the park heading into the new campaign.
Gini Wijnaldum’s exit from Anfield last summer had convinced Klopp to scout the market for a replacement signing to bolster his midfield ranks as the futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner hang in the balance.
