Liverpool target Matheus Nunes could reach an agreement to stay put with Sporting Lisbon beyond the summer after talks with the manager Ruben Amorim.
The 23-year-old Portugal international midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield of late with Jurgen Klopp on the hunt for a fresh face to add to his options in the centre of the park.
According to O Jogo, however, it is claimed that Sporting could succeed in their efforts to retain the in-demand Nunes for the forthcoming season after the club’s head coach Ruben Amorim held talks with the player.
Liverpool were credited with a surprise interest in moving in for Nunes ahead of the start of the 2022-23 campaign despite rumours doing the rounds that Klopp was ready to delay his plans of bringing in a new midfield signing until 2023.
The Reds manager asserted that he was not on the lookout for a fourth and final signing in the transfer window this summer unless there were any injury setbacks or notable departures from the Anfield fold.
