Liverpool target Ryan Gravenberch has expressed his desire that he will remain a Bayern Munich player for the upcoming season.
The Dutch midfielder made the move from his childhood club Ajax to Bayern last summer but had limited playing time. He made only three Bundesliga starts, after falling out of favour with coaches Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel.
Gravenberch has revealed his expectation for more playing time, which has prompted Jurgen Klopp to give Liverpool the go-ahead to pursue the 21-year-old as they aim to bolster their midfield.
Liverpool’s pursuit of the Dutch midfielder has suffered a setback as the 21-year-old has stated that he feels he still has unfinished business in Germany.
While speaking to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, he said:
“I assume I will still play here next season. That’s really how I feel. I’m at a top-three club in the world. I find that beautiful and special. I won’t give that up just like that. My goal is still to succeed at Bayern.”
Gravenberch had a successful stint at Ajax, accumulating over 100 appearances for the club, before deciding to join the Bundesliga. Despite being only 21 years old, he has already earned 11 caps for the Netherlands.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Gravenberch has prompted them to consider alternative targets in the midfield position. The club has already secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m this summer.
They have also been linked with other midfielders such as Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram, and Gabri Veiga, as they aim to address the weaknesses in that area from last season.
Southampton sensation Romeo Lavia is also on Liverpool’s radar, and discussions have taken place with the Saints regarding a potential transfer. The 19-year-old is valued at approximately £50m.
