Liverpool target Sven Botman reacts to speculation over Anfield move

Lille central defender Sven Botman has been linked with a move to Anfield for long with the Holland international seen as an answer to the injury crisis at Liverpool and the player has reacted to the constant speculation in an interview with The Atheltic.

Botman admitted to being flattered by the interest shown in him earlier this year in January by Jurgen Klopp’s Reds but said that it was too early for him to seek a move away from Lille having signed for the Ligue 1 outfit just the previous summer.

Botman glad at being linked with a move to big clubs

The former Ajax man has witnessed a great season for Lille who are on course to clinch the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Botman has asserted that he remains focused on his present surroundings until the summer before making a decision over his future.

“It is a good compliment when you hear these clubs are interested,” Botman said.

“I’m lying if I say it’s not interesting me — it’s the first time such big clubs are linked to me — but it was early days because in January I was only at Lille for half a season.

“It was nice to hear but I was focusing on Lille and I’m still doing this. After the season I will enjoy a vacation and see what happens next.”

Liverpool to be rivalled by Manchester United for Botman’s signature

Joining the Reds in the mix to make an approach for the highly-rated Lille man are Manchester United who are believed to be on the hunt for a new centre-back option in the summer.

Botman’s influential displays across this campaign have convinced United to make the Dutchman a priority signing despite Liverpool’s prior interest in the player whom they had shortlisted in the January window as a major target.
