Liverpool tipped to trigger contract extension for striker Divock Origi

Liverpool are tipped to trigger a contract extension for striker Divock Origi whose deal with the Merseysiders is due to expire at the end of the season.

Origi has been used as a bit-part player by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield but the Belgian’s super-sub showings in recent times have made him a valuable asset off the bench for the Liverpool manager.

The Athletic’s James Pearce reckons the Liverpool camp will be mulling over triggering an extension for Origi’s stay to be extended beyond the next summer’s transfer window to protect his value in the market.

Serie A duo AC Milan and Atalanta have been credited with a strong interest in prizing away the 26-year-old from Merseyside where his first-team status remains shrouded with uncertainty amidst inconsistency in form.

Liverpool will be unable to call upon Origi’s services for the upcoming outing at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday with the forward player on the sidelines with an injury since the Champions League group game win over AC Milan.
